Maui Day 1: Arrived in Maui, got car, checked in at the Northshore Maui Hostel (highly recommended, by the way – it’s very clean and the staff is friendly). After that, I met up with my friend Kua, who works as an air traffic controller at the Kahului airport, and his friend, Kevin who was also visiting from Oahu. We ate at Sam Sato’s (awesome “dry” saimin) then headed over to Iao Valley which is ten minutes from the hostel. Despite the humidity and heat, I enjoyed the hike/nature walk. Once we got fed up with feeding mosquitoes, we drove down to Lahaina where we shot some photos of the sunset. If you’re not familiar with my photography yet, I tend to take an inordinate and unnecessary amount of sunset photos. I feel it’s kind of the same as people that say “like” too much. When the sun went down, we headed back to Kahului to eat and prepare to sleep for 3 hours before hitting up Haleakala.
